The phone suddenly buzzed on the cherry toned night stand. Reaching over, Sarah grabbed the phone. "Hello?"

"Tomorrow I am going to meet you. Don't be scared."

  Half awake, Sarah frowned. "What?"

The phone abruptly disconnected. She rolled back over to find her boyfriend. She grabbed his arm and pulled it over her as she rolled into him. He suddenly stirred. "You alright honey," he uttered with his eyes closed.

Sarah felt shaken. Taking a deep breath, she felt his warmth next to her and let the call go. She thought it was perhaps some stranger calling a wrong number.

As dawn approached Sarah woke up and proceeded to the shower. She let her night gown drop to the floor and proceeded to the stall. The phone suddenly rang. "Can you get that honey?" she called out as she started the water.

"Sure," he returned as he worked on his tie.

Sarah closed her eyes as she felt the water run down across her face and flood her long stands of dark brown hair.

"I don't know who you are, but you have the wrong number!"

Sarah shut off the water as she listened to the outburst in the bedroom. The phone suddenly slammed down. "Honey? Everything okay?" she said.

Her boyfriend suddenly appeared in the doorway. "Yes. It was just some weird guy. He was saying something about waiting for you?"

Sarah choked. "What was he saying about spending time with me?"

He frowned. "I don't know. I was thinking you knew him from work?"

Sarah paused and tried to remember what the voice sounded like while she was half asleep. "Was it raspy?"

He nodded. "It was. Do you want me to stay here with you today? It is your day off?"

Sarah shook her head. "No. I don't want you in trouble. I'll be fine," she said.

A smile crossed his face as he approached her to kiss her goodbye. "If you do go out, please be careful. The snow and ice are bad enough. Strange people are even worse."

Sarah nodded and kissed him. She then watched as he walked out the door. Returning to the shower, she tried to focus on her plans for the day. But something kept drawing her to that old raspy voice. Something about it left her amiss. It seemed so familiar and yet so distant. It wasn't a voice she recognized from her recent past. Still, it could be a stranger that just happened to have the wrong phone number. But then how they seemed to know her was what left her puzzled. She wished she had answers but nothing seemed to come to mind. It was as if it was a ghost calling her.

Dismissing the call she finished her shower and stepped out to dry. Just outside the bathroom window the snow had started to blow and flurry. Each flake danced in the wind. The conditions were slowly turning for the worst.

The phone suddenly rang next to her bed. Proceeding over to it, she picked it up. "Hello?" she said.

"Very soon now. I will see you. Do not be afraid..." the fragmented voice whispered.

Sarah screamed and slammed the phone receiver down. The phone suddenly rang again. Grabbing it she answered, "What do you want!"

"Sarah?" the voice echoed. "This is Bill. Is everything alright?"

She gasped as she suddenly realized it wasn't the man, but her boss. "Bill, I'm so sorry. Yes. Some strange man had just called."

"Oh. If it's a bad time, I can call Julie?"

"No," Sarah returned. She could tell from the voice in his voice something was wrong at work. "What's up?"

"We have an issue with the Fairfield account. Can you come down?"

Sarah nodded as though he was there in front of her. "Of course Bill. I will be right down."

  "Thanks Sarah. See you then."

Grabbing her boots, she quickly dressed and rushed for the door as the phone began to ring again. She knew she should probably stop and answer it. It could be Bill, or her boyfriend Michael. But she also knew the weather was worsening by the minute. She needed to go.

Slamming the door behind her, she rushed for the car. Suddenly her boots gave way, allowing her to slam into the icy pavement. "Damn it," she uttered. Getting back up, she continued to the car. Opening the door, she hopped in and started it up.

Pulling back, she dismissed the ice and fog on the windshield. She figured it would defrost as she was driving with the heat on. Gazing through the window, she started down the road. The snowflakes were large and wet. Only a light dusting covered the road. It looked like it had been raining earlier.

Pressing the accelerator down, she began speeding down the road. The road was quiet. No one else was around. It left her feeling the urge to speed.

Winding down and around the bend, she could see the bridge ahead. It was the Mayton bridge, named after a young man named Richard Mayton. He died in a storm, just like this one.

Sarah took her foot off the accelerator as she approached the hill. As the car reached the top, she suddenly felt the traction slip. Quickly adjusting, the car refused to respond. She began sliding with the momentum as the car angled off and picked up speed. She watched in horror as the bridge closed in on her. The car continued to slide as she instinctively pressed down the gas. The engine roared over and over but the wheels refused to grab hold of the pavement. Her life began to flash in front of her eyes. The car approached the edge and she could only sit and watch, tightly gripping the wheel.

A man suddenly appeared in the passenger's seat. He was young, well trimmed. "I'm glad we get to finally meet Sarah."

Sarah looked over at him, the moment of death and fear before her. She suddenly recognized him. And then she knew where she knew the voice from. It was Richard Mayton. He was the one that called. He was the one that was there to meet her. "Richard."

His eyes met hers. "We meet the same fate, just as it was meant to be."

Sarah was at a loss. Seconds were left for her life, but what was she missing? It was then that her memories came back to her. That night that Richard died at the wheel. She was supposed to be out with him. But she wanted to go with Michael instead. It was what caused it all.

"It was because of me, wasn't it?"

"My fate will be your fate Sarah. It was meant to be."

Sarah drew in a long deep breath as the car collided with the bridge and ripped in half. Sarah could feel the explosion rip her to pieces. Everything then went black.

Minutes passed and then Sarah found herself standing out by the bridge. Richard was standing next to her. "So where to now?"

"Destiny Sarah. Destiny." Sarah took Richard's hand and the two walked along the creek, disappearing into the mist.
